Surprise! Today, we release the Starstruck Saga box set with a whole new cover and fancy art inside. I bet you didn’t see that coming. Or maybe you did, with all my terrible clues all over social media for the past few weeks. Did they make any sense? No? Well, that’s because until recently, we didn’t know how this would play out either.
A few months ago my publisher Bolide and I were discussing the best way to put together the first ARC of Sally Webber’s adventure. We talked about making a fancy box/snug for readers to use to sort their paperbacks, but with fans spread far and wide across the planet, it was an impossible dream. But what about a massive special edition? With all five books in one gorgeous, ginormous hardcover? We said yes!
So we hired the cover artist (the talented Felipe de Barros); we hired the interior artist (Color Wizard Lloyd Ladera); and we hired the amazing Emily Anderson to do the interior formating. Yes, my sister! Yes, the brilliant graphic designer about to graduate from the royal academy in the Netherlands with a degree in book design. But no amount of expertise could take over 2,000 pages of Scifi and cram them into our 1,200 page limit.
Oops. I shouldn’t have written that much.
With a new cover and no way to print it, we gathered our whits and pulled everyone together to produce the gorgeous e-omnibus anyway. All five books in one place, with a new cover, new art on the inside, and everything a box set could be. But with a cover like the one Felipe created for us, that wasn’t enough.
You know what we need to do? (Said all of us), We need to print it. We need Starstruck to be a hardcover.
Now some of you might remember – or even own! – the first edition Starstruck hardcover. It was modeled after the paperback cover and printed as a large 6×9 book. After a few weeks on Amazon, someone bought a dozen, then put them back on sale (a common Amazon scam) for $10 more than asking price. Somehow, that destroyed the Amazon selling arm of the hardcovers, and they were no more.
This hardcover is going to be different. It’s going to be YA friendly, with a cute format of 5.5 x 8.5. Each book is going to have new artwork inside and out, some with extra content we released on the side. Basically, each one is going to be a special edition, at the normal edition price.
Not to mention the books are now f*ck free. That’s right, we went on a f*ck-finding mission and cleared them all out, replaced with better, wilder insults. Which means we’re now the friends of moms everywhere! Huzzah! Really, I can’t believe how vulgar I was in the first book. I wrote Starstruck in earnest during my worst year of university, during the worst of my depression, just using fiction to figure my way out. I was angry, so Sally was angry, and that anger gave her the mouth of a sailor. She’s still a potty mouth, just a lot more creative in the new edition.
I’ll be letting you know more about the new hardcover editions as things come together. The plan is to release one a month until the release of EARTHSTRUCK this summer in July! So get ready for new cover reveals and giveaways!
And back to the Omnibus: we’re launching the Box Set at a special launch price, only $2.99 this week only. That means all five books for the price of one. That’s pretty crazy, right? And for those who have KU, it’s totally free!
Thank you so much for all of your support! None of this would be possible without you incredible fans. I hope you enjoy all the goodies we’ve put together for you!
